GCSE Poetry Live
Friday 22nd November saw a group of 40 year 11 students travel across London to the Apollo Victoria Theatre to attend the GCSE Poetry Live! Event.
This well-attended event began with the Chief Examiner for AQA, Tony Childs, talking to the students about the Unseen Poetry section of their English Literature exam. He gave them a series of excellent advice, and talked them through how to approach the section, providing examples as he went.
He was then followed by a number of poets whose work they have studied for the exams – Carol Ann Duffy, Daljit Nagra, Simon Armitage, Imtiaz Dharker and, the ever popular, John Agard. Each one read some of their poems and discussed the process of creating poetry. They ended their sessions by answering questions from the audience.
It was a highly successful trip and, as ever, our students behaved impeccably. Many of them spoke about how they felt it would help with their exam in the summer.
